DLSS is a family of rendering options available in supported games and NVIDIA graphics hardware. Depending on the game version and GPU, you may see features such as upscaling or frame generation. The shared label does not mean every option works in the same way.
What upscaling does
Upscaling helps a game render at a lower internal resolution and convert the result to a higher output resolution. This can reduce GPU workload, but results vary by game, mode, and scene. Check fine text, moving edges, and distant detail when judging image quality.
What frame generation does
Frame generation can estimate additional frames between rendered frames to make motion appear smoother. A higher displayed frame count does not guarantee that input response improves by the same amount. In competitive games, assess latency separately and consider the underlying rendered frame rate.
How to find a good setting
- Measure the game at native resolution with a consistent graphics preset.
- Change one DLSS option at a time.
- Compare frame rate, image clarity, and control response in the same scene.
- Recheck settings after game and driver updates.
Confirm feature support in the game’s official documentation; a technology name is not a promise of identical performance on every PC.
